Psalm 138:1-2 [King David's prayer to God]: "I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee. I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."

James 5:7-8: "Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman [farmer] waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh."

[Note: According to commentaries by Adam Clarke, Albert Barnes, and John Gill, the early rain occurs in autumn (late October) in Israel and the surrounding areas, and the latter rain occurs in the spring (March), which is when the people normally plant and harvest their crops. Rain is rare during the summer months.]

Genesis 3:14-19 [This took place in the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil]:

Verses 14-15: "And the LORD God said unto the serpent [who was controlled by Satan], Because thou hast done this [tempted Eve], thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity [hatred] between thee [Satan] and the woman [Eve], and between thy seed [Satan's offspring: wicked men] and her seed [Eve's offspring through Jesus: people of God]; it shall bruise thy head [Jesus shall overcome Satan and his works], and thou shalt bruise his heel [Satan will bring about the crucifixion of Christ]."

Verse 16: "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."

Verses 17-19: "And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."

Proverbs 20:4: "The sluggard [habitually inactive or lazy person] will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing."

"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

Hebrews 2:3: "How shall we escape [the wrath of God and punishment in hell], if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord [Jesus], and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;"

Philippians 1:6 [the apostle Paul speaking]: "Being confident of this very thing, that he [God] which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ [the day of the Lord, or the second coming of Christ]:"

Matthew 7:7-11: "Ask [in prayer], and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"

Revelation 20:4 [the apostle John, referring to his vision of future events]: "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years."

Acts 17:22-31: "Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious [more religious than most people]. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply [perhaps] they might feel after him [search diligently for him], and find him [find proof of his existence], though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven [sculptured] by art and man's device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained [Jesus]; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead."

1 John 4:7-8: "Beloved, let us love one another: for [brotherly, or Christian] love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."

And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 1 Corinthians 15:50-53 [the apostle Paul, referring to born-again Christians and the rapture]: "Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God [heaven]; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep [die], but we shall all be changed [given spiritual, or immortal, bodies], In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we [who are alive] shall be changed. For this corruptible [body] must put on incorruption, and this mortal [body] must put on immortality."

1 Timothy 2:11-14: "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression."

Leviticus 20:6: "And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them [to consult them and place confidence in them], I [God] will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people."

1 Peter 2:13-16: "Submit yourselves to every ordinance [law] of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye  may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God."

1 Corinthians 14:27-28: "If any man speak in an unknown tongue [foreign language], let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course [separately, one after another]; and let one interpret. 1 Kings 3:16-28: "Then came there two women, that were harlots [prostitutes], unto the king [Solomon], and stood before him. And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house. And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save [except] we two in the house. And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid [laid on top of, and smothered] it. And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear. And the other woman said, Nay [no]; but the living [child] is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king. Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living. And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon [she had compassion for] her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay [kill] it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof. And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment."
