Program Preview (4/19/20) -- Hal Lindsey's Bible Study on Revelation 14: Overview of the "Battle of Armageddon"

This week, Hal Lindsey Presents returns to Revelation. We will start where we left off in chapter 14. But before we go there, we examine some key scripture in 1 Peter 1.

Verses 10-12 say, "As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful search and inquiry, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven - things into which angels long to look."

What an amazing concept! When it says, "into which angels long to look," the Greek indicates that angels "passionately desire" and "seek intently to see and understand" the amazing grace that God has granted you and me. They saw Jesus lay down His life for our sins. They see God's love and care for us despite our ongoing faults. They see the miracle of Christ's righteousness being given to us and made our own.

And one day, an angel will get his opportunity to preach to humanity. Revelation 14:6-7 speaks of an "angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; and he said with a loud voice, 'Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters.'"

Throughout chapter 14 of Revelation, a series of angels take center stage, each with different messages and different missions. Finally, verse 20 gives us a preview of the war of Armageddon. "And the wine press was trodden outside the city, and blood came out from the wine press, up to the horses' bridles, for a distance of two hundred miles."

On this program, I give an easy-to-understand overview of the astounding events surrounding that war. Usually people speak of the "Battle of Armageddon." But it's much more than. It is the most terrible war in human history. One of the helpful things about a preview like this is that it gives a high-ground vantage point so that later, when we get into the nitty-gritty of the Bible's teaching on Armageddon, we already have a basic understanding and an overview.
